| The classic alternative to Knudson C for sowing tropical orchids. This is the original |
| medium as published published by E. Vacin and F.W. Went 1949 but with |
| modified iron source and reduced agar (used here is high gel-strength Hengduagar). |

| Instant powder, quantity for desired volume of medium sealed in heavy-duty light-proof |
| plastic bag. To be used immediately after opening. Simple medium preparation: |
| just add the powder to near boiling water, stir to avoid clumping, adjust pH, add water up |
| to final volume, if dispensed into several culture vessels first heat until gelling agent is |
| dissolved, fill into vessels, autoclave and let the medium cool down to be ready for use. | |
