L10048  Vacin & Went, original medium

This is the original composition (mod. Fe source) as published by E. Vacin
and F.W. Went in Botanical Gazette 110: 605-613. The medium was supposed
to have an improved pH stability for sowing tropical orchids. It is still widely
used today, but usually with a modified Fe-source and addition of organic
compounds like vitamins, organic nitrogen sources and undefined complex
additives. A typical application is in propagation of Oriental cymbidiums.
This medium has a modified Fe-source that insures similar Fe-quantity
with slightly improved availability and a reduced quantity of high gel-strength
agar to insure good gel constitution.
