| of Paphiopedilum for stage II of in-vitro sowing of paphiopedilums. |
| After germination protocorms need to be reflasked to insure constant |
| and speedy development and to avoid over-crowding. If reflasked to |
| strong maintenance media which promote speedy and healthy growth |
| of older seedlings, protocorms of many species and sensible hybrids |
| cease development for a long time or simply die. Therefore a second |
| stage has to be used before final reflasking of seedlings to insure |
| speedy growth and broad survival of protocorms. Usually neither the |
| germination medium nor the final replating medium are suitable for |
| this purpose. HPM 1a was developed in the tissue culture laboratory |
| of Hengduanbiotech with the result of highly improved survival rate |
| and good growth of protocorms of many paphiopedilum types that are |
| usually difficult to propagate in vitro. Young seedlings developed on |
| HPM 1a should be replated on a stronger medium when they have |
| developed first leaves and roots. This medium does not contain |
| plant growth regulators! The pH is pre-adjusted to 5.7-5.9. |
